It is committed to ensuring that the new union has a democratic structure through which members can determine policy, and elected officers and professional officials can be held accountable. It seeks to defend educational equality, and to oppose the consequences of neo-liberal marketisation. It is opposed to all forms of racism, sexism, oppression and imperialism.

Experience
I am seeking re-election as Prisons Education Member on the NEC for the forthcoming year.
I have represented prison educators at both national and local level, both within the union structure and outside. I have lobbied successfully for a voice on the LSC and for the setting up of a Prisons Forum with Government.
I have represented members individually on grievance and disciplinary panels and on my college's JCNC. I have been instrumental in negotiating better working conditions and a review of existing systems.
No to Privatisation
I am opposed to the privatisation of prison education and believe that this fragmentation leads to insecurity and a worsening of working conditions for members. If elected I will continue to speak out and lobby against this. I believe that we should be aiming for a unified system, properly financed and directly accountable to the electorate and one which offers prison educators a recognised career path and security. UCU should be an integral stakeholder in this and through the Prisons Forum be part of the consultation process with government.
Keep Prison Education on the Agenda
If elected I will continue to ensure that prison education is kept high on the list of the Union's priorities and will continue to lobby on behalf of all prison educators both at a local and national level - inside and outside the Union.
I am currently employed as an English Studies lecturer at HMP Wormwood Scrubs.

- Prisons Education Member on National Executive since 2005.
- UCU Representative (OLASS) on JCNC of Kensington & Chelsea College since 2006.
