We've put our strike on hold today (24/4/07) after what I think they call “productive talks” with management that mean the new contracts
we were faced with are on the way out.. The deal means they have offered to remove the new contracts for new starters (and we will enter discussions looking at “efficiency”). Our Principal will put it to a committee of our Governors on Friday, and then it'll go to the full Governors a week or so later, and the assumption is they'll agree. They have also agreed to delay the legal time limit on our ballot another 28 days, so that if this goes wrong we are still in a position to take action. We don't want to start chanting victory songs until it's done and dusted, so keep an eye out for further confirmation at www.uculeft.devisland.net/MCC.html. But for now we'd like to express how grateful we are for all the support we've received from outside the college. You've been fantastic and we promise to repay that support at every opportunity. For UCU and others right now that means helping stop the disgraceful attacks on contracts and redundancies at Harlow College. Please contact Branch Secretary - Adam Amor - aamor@ednet.harlow-college.ac.uk to find out how to help. Thanks, David Swanson Branch Sec. UCU City College Manchester |
